Armada provides Total Hydraulic Management Service to shipowners worldwide

Investment in innovative new services has allowed Armada Marine Hydraulics shrug off the effects of the credit crunch and show continued growth

Amongst other areas of development, the introduction of the new Total Hydraulic Management Service (THMS) has seen Armada working with some of the biggest names in shipmanagement and a growing team of engineers travelling the globe to provide hydraulic engineering support to ships worldwide.

THMS reduces the workload on shipmanagers by allowing Armada to manage the hydraulics on board their vessels on their behalf. Having experts on hand to deal with any technical hydraulic issues both remotely and through engineering visits allows managers to spend their time more productively and means that when it comes to finding parts, Armada can use their global network of suppliers to source parts, however unusual or obsolete. Parts which are unavailable or where lead times are unacceptable can be manufactured or reconditioned in their newly refurbished factory.

The idea for THMS sprang from the realisation that failures of hydraulic parts costing a few pounds can be responsible for delaying ships in port which can cost tens of thousands of pounds a day. THMS therefore aims to help ship managers avoid failures through improved system management, typically starting with a system survey, condition report and hose register and including options such as full or partial spares kits, annual inspections, planned maintenance as well as discounts on parts, labour and training.

Martin Doney, Managing Director of Armada says “Our new THMS is the result of a program of face to face discussions with ship technical managers at some of the biggest names in the industry conducted for us by business development consultancy Quantum Marine Marketing Ltd. The clear pattern that emerged was that managers are busy handling so many different aspects of their vessels that the last thing they need is to be trying to procure parts and service for often obsolete equipment. We can take all that hassle away from them and improve the safety and operability of their vessel; if we help the manager avoid one breakdown every twenty years, THMS will have paid for itself many times over.”
