The education department of the International Institute of Marine Surveying hosted a course for Marine Surveyors / students on the above subject, at their Headquarters in Portchester on Monday 18th of July 2011.
The course was delivered by Armada, the course lecturer was Alan Rowe, Technical Director, who’s easy and relaxed style made the presentation a comfortable and rewarding experience. The course consisted of an introductory Power Point presentation, but this was kept to the absolute minimum just enough to present the basic facts. Alan then proceeded to explain in detail the various issues with hydraulics in small craft with sketches on the flip chart.
Ample time was allowed for question and answer sessions, but this still resulted in Alan talking for almost 7 hrs. The general feedback from candidates attending the course was good, implying that the level was set at a point which was of assistance to surveyors, who more and more get involved in the inspection of systems installed in small and medium size vessels. The following are comments received from delegates attending this course.
( Just a quick note to thank you for all the arrangements around the Hydraulics Course yesterday. The course was very helpful (it even helped me understand a problem I have with my agricultural tractor at home!) and gave just enough information to enable subsequent research and reading into the subject in due course, without getting everyone lost in detail on the day.)
(I thoroughly enjoyed the hydraulics course on Monday)
(Thanks for arranging the course day with Armada on Monday 18th July, I found it very useful and was surprised just how simple it was to understand.)
(Just a short note of thanks. The course was very interesting and the catering was to a very high standard. The day was very good value and I am impressed with your Headquarters.)
The IIMS run courses for their members and students on a regular basis, although predominantly for members they do offer the facilities to other surveyors and candidates wishing to gain further knowledge. Based on the experience gained from this course, we would have no hesitation in working with Armada on future occasions. Anyone wishing further information please go to www.iims.org.uk
